This moody, late-night scene from Bourbon Street in New Orleans started as a photograph—like all my Digital Paintings. While I do explore other places, there’s something about New Orleans that makes it a paradise for my photography. The energy, the atmosphere, and the light create an endless source of inspiration.

Here, a panhandler sits quietly, hoping for a few more dollars before calling it a night. As a photographer, I’m mindful of capturing images of homelessness—I never want to exploit the subject. But in this moment, I saw the perfect elements for a powerful, storytelling image: the lighting, the textures, and the depth of the scene.

This became the foundation for an evocative Digital Painting, where I could enhance the mood and emotion in a way that photography alone couldn’t. If I could find a way to donate this piece to a cause supporting the homeless, I would do so in a heartbeat
