Old Historic Church, New Mexico....

The American Southwest—especially New Mexico—has long been a favorite region of mine as a photographer. One of the most compelling subjects I’ve found there are the many historic churches scattered across the landscape, like this one near Taos. Rich in character and visual texture, they offer endless inspiration. This particular image, with its weathered details and vibrant tones, made for a powerful Digital Painting. Part of what gives the piece impact is the abstract nature of the final result—especially when the viewer knows what’s supposed to be there. That tension between familiarity and abstraction is a key part of the creative effect.
